A sustainable aerobic landfill can be sub-divided into cells and, by using a round-robin approach, each cell can be filled, aerobically processed, excavated and re-deployed to accept more waste. This technique, not only eliminates costly closure, monitoring and liability costs but also allows cells to be inspected and repaired as required to ensure environmental integrity.
By converting to a sustainable aerobic landfill, the life of a landfill can be extended indefinitely. The often lengthy and costly exercise of locating and developing a new site is eliminated, resulting in cost savings of tens to hundreds of millions of dollars for a municipality.
